Schmidt House

This small house in the woods had large aspirations. Starting from the owner’s desire for a straw bale house, the design counterposes super-insulated straw bale components with charred cedar boxes. A wall of glass captures the view to the north, and the roof is tipped up to draw in sunlight from the south.
