Laven House
Penticton, 2013
The house is designed to provide an energy efficient refuge for a couple in their retirement. Budget was modest, and the new house was designed to fit discretely onto the property, allowing the original farmhouse to be retained as a rental property. Walls and roof are constucted of Structural Insulated Panels. In-floor heating is provided through an air-to-water heat pump. The southern wall is fully glazed for maximum solar gain in winter, while a generous roof overhang protects it from overheating during summer. The roof angle is maximised for a future photovoltaic array.
