Apex Duplex

This triangular lot on Apex Mountain appeared unbuildable. Once all setbacks were subtracted, only 1.5 m2 of buildable area remained — not enough for a duplex ski cabin. The design solution was to vary the setbacks in all directions, and elevate the living space to overcome the near vertical slope. A dramatic cantilevered pod sits on a two-level concrete base, and projects the living spaces and balconies into the treetops. Durable finishes, and natural protection from the cantilevers, creates a cozy winter refuge.
